Watching movies is fun, but they are even better when we have snacks to go with it. The problem comes when we eat unhealthy snacks while sitting for long periods of time in front of a screen. Fortunately, the following snacks are both healthy and easy to prepare, which will make your movie watching that much more enjoyable, and healthy.
1.Healthy homemade popcorn
Underneath all of the salt and grease, popcorn is still a whole grain! And it can definitely be a healthy, crunchy, and satisfying snack. Make it fresh at home, and enhance it a little with some extra-virgin olive oil, a sprinkle of sugar and spice, a little parmesan and black pepper, or simply add butter to it while it’s still hot.
If your movie candy of choice is jelly tots, sour sweets, or any other fruit-flavoured candy, one theatre-sized serving is easily double to triple the recommended daily limit for sugar! However, you could try frozen grapes, which is a more natural choice. They’re cool, easy to pop in your mouth, and a sweet-tart solution to sugar cravings. Spread grapes out on a baking sheet in the freezer, so they freeze separately, before tossing them into a zip-top plastic bag.
Chocolate lovers can really build up too many calories on a movie night. It is also packed with sugar, especially milk chocolate, which is deceptively unhealthy. Instead, consider snacking on a little bit of quality dark chocolate. You can enjoy it for longer and get more of the benefits that cocoa offers without the extensive sugar intake of milk chocolate.
4.Mixed nuts and dried fruit
There are many different variations of mixed nuts on the market. Many of them contain some dried fruit in it as well. They don’t only make for a great snack on the go, but are also great tasting and easy to enjoy. Try get a ready-mixed bag at the store, or you could simply mix your own at home by combining different mixed nuts and dried fruit.
Last but not least (and actually the healthiest), are raw veggies. To make them more enjoyable you could try include a healthy, but tasty dip. Some veggie snacks are: carrots, cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli and cherry tomatoes. They are all crunchy, tasty and easy to prepare. Cut the veggies up on a plate or platter with a delicious dip in the centre.
